I used to have one or two pairs of convertible pants when I was in high school, but as an adult, I have not been able to find any in stores. (I find it odd that almost all on this site are identified as hiking pants.) Such a garment is a necessity when the heat changes greatly during the day, or when the weather is hot and every building you enter is overcooled. When I first felt the thin material, I was worried that these would not keep me warm enough at full length. I was wrong. Also, either leg zipper shuttle has a strip of fabric marked "L" or "R", making it harder to confuse the lower halves when re-attaching them (if, like me, you prefer to take them off entirely, instead of wearing them around your ankles like most kids used to).The included belt is a little tricky to adjust while wearing, putting on and taking off, but is nicely secure and infinitely adjustable, which is always a plus.As a bonus, the water resistance appears to make them harder to noticeably stain.I only dislike the color, but I since ordered two more pairs in different, better ones.I have only two complaints: they always look wrinkled, and the zipper ends are sometimes a little hard to reach.Avid hiker. I now own 4 of these. I used to hike in either REI or Columbia. I’ve replaced them all over time with these. For me, this fabric is far superior. REI and Columbia both turn into flannel jammies after a number of washes. These have remained crisp and like-new.My husband asked me to find these. Amazon delivers again! I think he thought he'd wear them as pants more than he does. I've seen him wear them as pants ONCE. He loves the shorts!Lots of pockets, fit nice, good quality for the price.Worked fine for me, fit was good, and was the right size. fabric is a bit on the thin side. Included belt was not great. otherwise happy!34'' waist in CQR zip off Cargos is more accurate & flexible than Columbia's, which i used to buy. The Columbia's are a lighter material , that I like but their nylon zippers are thinner and break more easily. So I even though the pant material on these is heavier and makes more noise when walking etc., the similar price between the CQR and Columbia make these a better buy as I don't expect the zipper to break as easily.Took these to the Boundary Waters to wear for canoeing and camping. Bought two pairs. Comfortable and very lightweight. Bottom part of pants zipped on and off easily. I bought my normal size. I would recommendOne of the reasons I choose these pants is because they say they have 60% cotton, and that may be true. But the fabric is so thin and feels just like all nylon, they are not substantial at all. If I was looking at them in the store I would never have bought them. The clear plastic package they were shipped in was 10"X7"X1", that's how lightweight they are. Great to stuff in your backpack I guess, but not much for wearing around town. They'll probably be returned.
